The day begins with the sacred Pushpanjali ceremony, a final collective offering of flowers and prayers to the divine mother. Devotees gather to present flowers and perform their last ritualistic worship before the imminent departure of the Goddess. This touching ritual represents the community's gratitude for her blessings and protection throughout the year, and for granting them the divine grace to witness another Durga Puja. The centerpiece of Vijaya Dashami is the Sindoor Khela (ritual of vermillion play), a uniquely Bengali tradition of extraordinary beauty and deep cultural significance. Married women and girls come forward to playfully apply vermillion (sindoor) on each other's faces and to the idol of the Goddess. This ancient practice symbolizes the menstruating power of the Goddess, celebrates feminine divinity, and represents the joy and togetherness of womanhood.
